Bologna

I spent yesterday on a daytrip to Bologna. It is the home of the oldest university in the world, which we visited, but, being a weekend, it was completely deserted and not very exciting. But the city itself is pretty cool-it is known for its porticoes, which are little arch shaped "hallway" type things. Everywhere we walked, we were walking under them-they're over practically every sidewalk in the city. Bologna also has a leaning tower, two to be exact, just they don't lean as drastically as Pisa's, so they're not known widely. We climbed to the top of one of them and looked out over the city, which was pretty cool, minus the 500 steps. There used to be around 100 towers in Bologna, it was kind of a competition between the rich families in town to see who could build the tallest one. Now there's only about 20, so it was kind of cool to randomly run into towers while walking around the town. We also visited a couple of churches, and hung out in the main Piazzas, and had some fabulous gelatto. The Fontana del Nettuno was interesting to see.
